The PTI on Wednesday demanded an open court trial in the court-martial proceedings against former spy general (retd) Faiz Hameed, citing jailed PTI founder Imran Khan, who was arrested earlier this month in a housing scheme. He was detained in connection with the scam.

On Monday, Imran claimed that the former Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) chief was sanctioned to pave the way for his (Imran’s) trial in a military court in the May 9 riots cases. Being forced to give.

Imran had also called this matter an internal matter of the army.

“If General Faiz Hameed was the central figure in the May 9 conspiracy, I request the Army Chief (General Asim Munir) to try General Faiz Hameed in an open court,” PTI said in a post on X of Imran.

Imran reportedly said that “an open trial will bring out the evidence,” adding that he believed there would not be an open trial and that the “decision would be taken behind closed doors”.

The former prime minister was further quoted as claiming that all cases against him have been closed.

In a separate post, the PTI chairman was quoted as saying: “They all know that all other cases against me are over, that’s why they want to take me to military courts.”

In an unprecedented move, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) announced the arrest of General Faiz on August 12 for allegedly violating the Army Act.

The move, prompted by allegations of misconduct by the owner of a private housing society, shattered a long-held perception that spy chiefs were untouchable in a country where generals have long wielded unparalleled influence.

The ISPR cited the Supreme Court’s November 2023 directive, which directed Kunwar Moeez Khan, owner of Islamabad’s Top City Housing Society, to file complaints against General Faiz through relevant channels, including the Ministry of Defence. Remedy, as a basis for initiating proceedings. Against the former spymaster.

A few days later, the ISPR revealed that three other retired officers were also in military custody for their “actions against military discipline”.

Information Minister Attaullah Tarar had also indicated more arrests in connection with General Faiz’s court-martial.
