Dylan Cease Makes History with Complete Game Win for San Diego Padres

San-Diego-Padres

Hoping to stay in the game and have a chance to pitch the second no-hitter in San Diego Padres history, Dylan Cease got some help from the man who threw the first one.

Cease was at 94 pitches in seven innings when Padres manager Mike Shields looked at Joe Musgrove.

Dylan Cease needed just nine pitches in the eighth and 11 in the ninth in Thursday’s 3-0 victory over the Washington Nationals to complete a three-game sweep.

Cease (10-8) struck out nine and walked three in the 28-year-old right-hander’s third complete game in 145 major league starts. He threw a career-highest 114 pitches in a game that included a one-hour, sixteen-minute rain delay in the first.

Dylan Cease said, I’ve come close and to finally get it done, it’s one of those things that feels so remarkable and hard to believe.”I don’t even know how to feel to be able to do this and go out and experience it. Just happy.”

Washington swept for the sixth time this season and went 0-6 against San Diego. It was the first time the Padres went undefeated against the Nationals/Montreal Expos franchise since the two teams joined the National League in 1969.
