India’s T20 captain Suryakumar Yadav equaled Virat Kohli’s world record in almost half the time.

Surya also praised the efforts of the Lankan team, at the post-match presentation ceremony.

“Their players were playing a good brand of cricket from ball one. They were keeping the tempo, credit goes to their team. We know how the wicket plays at night. We were lucky that there was no dew on the ground. The way we played, played in the World Cup, which reminded us that the game is still far away, whatever works for the team, we will decide that,” Surya Kumar said after the game.

India’s newly-appointed T20 captain Suryakumar Yadav started his journey as the team’s full-time captain in style, winning the first match of the series convincingly. Suriyakuma’s team India beat Lanka by 43 runs after posting a total of 213/7 on the board, with the captain leading the way. Surya scored a 26-ball 58 during his stay in the middle and was instrumental in setting the tempo of the game. Even a skipper Surya gave a fine example of his strategic mindset, helping the team start the tour on a winning note. As a result, Suriya was adjudged Man of the Match, equaling Virat Kohli’s world record.
