Donahue’s family stated that: “The legendary TV talk show journalist Phil Donahue died Sunday night at home surrounded by his children, his sister, his wife of 44 years, Marlo Thomas, grandchildren, and his beloved golden retriever, Charlie.”

His cause of death was not immediately disclosed, although his family said he had suffered from a prolonged illness.
