According to family members, Zia Rashid was 8 feet 2.5 inches tall. Some other records state that his height was exactly 8 feet, making him two inches taller than Naseer Soomro. However, these measurements were not confirmed by the Guinness Book of Records.
Zia was born in 1987. His four siblings, Dr. Majid Rashid, Dr. Saqib Rashid, Aqib Rashid, Kashif Rashid, grew up with normal height, according to the family. However, Zia experienced phenomenal growth at the age of 15 and reached a height of 7 feet 10 inches by the age of 18.
He had reached a height of 8 feet 2.5 inches at the time of his death, the family said. He added that due to his height, his normal life was affected as medical problems arose. He developed knee pain after the age of 20.
According to friends and family, Zia had fallen down the stairs of her house some time ago. However, due to lack of government support, they could not arrange proper treatment. As a result, his condition deteriorated and he died on Tuesday.
Local residents Parvez Chaudhry, Salim Kumboh, Liaquat Qadri, and others said that Zia lived a full life. Zia Rashid was a very good-natured and simple person. With his death, Pakistan has lost one of the tallest men in the world,” Chaudhry said.
