The Premier League champions will pay around $3 million in fines for delaying games during their home matches.
Manchester City remain a hot topic in football, as they often push the boundaries and sometimes even transgress the rules of the game. As a result, Pep Guardiola’s side will be held accountable and have to pay a hefty fine for delays caused by their players and coaching staff during home games at the Etihad.
City have been investigated by the Premier League for breaching Financial Fair Play more than 100 times. Similarly, the English league has decided to fine the champion team for violating the most important rules of the Premier League 22 times in the last two seasons.
The rule in question states that league matches must start at the time specified in the official schedule, something which has not been followed in City’s games. For example, in their last match where they won against West Ham, the team came on two minutes and 46 seconds late in the second half.
Pep’s team will be fined $2.5 million for those delays, which equates to 39 minutes and 52 seconds of lost time when including the 22 incidents. Citizens have accepted their responsibility and will pay a fixed amount.
