Inter Miami’s Lionel Messi will miss the team’s next games in Major League Soccer due to an injury sustained while playing for Argentina, Miami team head coach Gerardo Martino has confirmed.
Messi is set to miss Inter Miami’s home games against Toronto FC on Wednesday and Chicago Fire on Saturday.
In the Copa America match against Colombia, which ended 1–0, Messi left the field in the 64th minute, and in pictures, he appeared to have a very swollen ankle. “The investigation will continue to understand the gravity of the situation,” Martino said.
Messi took to Instagram after Sunday’s match to appreciate the message of concern and support he has received. “Thank you for the messages and congratulations, I’m fine thank God… I hope one day I’ll be back on the field and enjoy what I love the most,” he said.
The team has currently won 14 matches and drawn five of 23, most of which have put Inter Miami as the second-best team in both MLS and the Eastern Conference with 47 points, behind only Cincinnati. Next week, One point behind, a team that beat Miami. 6-1 on July 6 this year. Inter Miami will begin their defense of the League Cup against MLS and Mexican league teams.
