Indian umpire Anil Chaudhary recently criticized Pakistan wicketkeeper Mohammad Rizwan for making frequent and aggressive appeals during matches.
The Indian umpire revealed that he spoke to his fellow on-field umpire about Rizwan’s repeated appeals on almost every ball, which was putting pressure on the umpires.
“I faced him [Rizwan] in last year’s Asia Cup. He kept shouting at every ball. I also informed the other umpire what Rizwan was doing,” said Anil Chaudhary.
“There was a moment when the second umpire was close to accepting his appeal but he suddenly took back my words and turned it down. Isn’t he [Mohammad Rizwan] the one who puts on something like lipstick? He keeps jumping like a dove,” he added.
Chowdhury also cautioned all wicketkeepers to avoid making false appeals, as experienced umpires are adept at spotting such tactics to put pressure on them.
But good umpires are wise enough to decide such things. When umpires are good, such keepers are losers, said the Indian umpire.
“So all defenders who are listening to me should be aware that making false appeals will not work. Otherwise, they may find themselves at the receiving end despite making genuine calls,” he said.
“This is a modern technology-driven age where you can see everything on a screen. Why make fun of yourself with such moves,” he concluded.
