Chance of light to moderate rain in Karachi, Badin, Thatta, Sajawal, and Hyderabad with occasional strong winds.
The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) on Saturday issued its seventh advisory regarding Cyclone “Isna”, which has moved further west-southwestwards in the Arabian Sea in the last six hours.
The cyclone is currently located at latitude 23.3 N and longitude 64.5 E, about 300 km southwest of Karachi, 230 km south-southwest of Ormara, and 300 km southeast of Gwadar.
The system is expected to continue tracking toward the west-southwest.
As a result of the movement of the cyclone, the PMD has predicted thundershowers, and gusty winds of 60-70 kmph over Balochistan’s Hub, Lasbela, Awaran, Kech, and Gwadar districts. There will be heavy rains in some areas, until tomorrow night.
Karachi, Badin, Thatta, Sajawal, Hyderabad, Tando Mohammad Khan, Matiari, Jamshoro and Dadu districts of Sindh are also likely to experience light to moderate rain with occasional gusty winds.
Heavy rains may inundate low-lying areas along the Makran coast. Additionally, sea conditions are likely to remain rough to very rough with gusty winds of up to 80 kmph.
Fishermen of Sindh have been advised to avoid going into the open sea till tonight while fishermen of Balochistan have been advised to stay ashore till tomorrow evening.
PMD’s Cyclone Warning Center in Karachi is closely monitoring the situation and will provide further updates if required. Authorities are urged to stay informed through PMD advisory to ensure timely action.
At least 24 people have died due to rain and storm-related incidents in the coastal areas of Sindh and Balochistan.
Events related to rain
At least nine people lost their lives in rain-related incidents in the Jamshoro, Dadu, and Mirpurkhas districts of Sindh.
More than 30 people were injured as the rain caused sewers to overflow, decks to collapse, and several shacks to collapse.
A man and his sister tragically died while three other members of the family were injured when the roof of their house collapsed during heavy rain in the village of Toba Tek Singh.
Meanwhile, 2 people including Shamim Bibi, a 50-year-old woman, were killed when a tree fell on University Road in Gulshan-e-Iqbal near Bait-ul-Mukram Mosque in Karachi.
Another fatality occurred in Sector 51-C of Korangi, where 25-year-old Muhammad Sameer was electrocuted while working at home.
In Balochistan, 13 people were washed away in a flood relay in the Loralai, Qila Saifullah, Diki, Harnai, and Jhal Magsi areas.
In Loralai, seven members of a family were swept away by floodwaters but were rescued after five hours, officials said.
Five people were swept away while trying to cross the seasonal river in the Anbar area of Daki. Four were rescued but one is missing. Another person is also missing in Jhal Magsi after drowning in flood water.
12 members of the same family were killed when the roof of the house collapsed due to continuous rain in Deer Bala.
Meanwhile, at least 28 people have died this week in rain-related incidents in the Indian state.
