Algerian boxer and current Paris Olympics semi-finalist Imane Khelif broke down while speaking to a reporter after a miscommunication on social media.

During the 10-second clip shared on social media, Khelif shared, “I have been boxing for years in the International Boxing Association which has treated me unfairly. But with me is Allah hai Allah Akbar.”

Algerian boxer Imane Khelif broke down in tears as she was given a hero’s welcome before defeating Hungary’s Anna Hamouri.

Algerian boxer Imane Khelif could not have wished for a better comeback after days of online abuse and misunderstandings following her victory over Italy’s Angela Carini.

On Saturday, Khelif defeated Hungary’s Anna Luka Hamori 5:0 in the quarterfinals of the women’s 66 kg division. Khelif will win at least a bronze medal whether or not she finishes third due to Olympic boxing rules.

Khelif’s second win in Paris was an emotional catharsis for the 25-year-old boxer from a village in northwest Algeria. After raising her hand in victory, Khelif walked to the center of the ring, waved to her fans, knelt, and then slammed her palm on the canvas, her smile turning to tears.

She left the ring to hug her coach as her fans roared, crying during their hug and as she walked out. Khelif stopped briefly to speak to an Algerian television crew, then went straight to the dressing room without stopping for the dozens of waiting reporters.
