Young Pakistani Shepherd brings the ancient language to the global platform Coke Studio

Twenty-year-old Nizamuddin Torwali, a shepherd from a remote village in northwestern Pakistan Swat, has become an unlikely star of Pakistan’s biggest TV music show, Coke Studio.

Sings in the language, with no formal musical training.

An Indo-Aryan dialect with no written tradition before 2007. The song has been viewed nearly 7 million times on YouTube since its release two weeks ago.

Torwali rose to fame while singing his traditional folk songs, and a video went viral. Now recognized nationwide, Torwali is eager to promote his culture and language through music.
