Elon Musk, CEO of SpaceX and owner of X, said on Tuesday that he will move the headquarters of both companies from California to Texas.
Musk vowed to make the move in response to Gov. Gavin Newsom’s (D-Calif.) signing of a new law that would bar school districts in the state from requiring parents to identify a child’s gender. Be notified of the change.
I made it very clear to Governor Newsom almost one year ago that laws like this would force families and companies to leave California to protect their children, Elon Musk shared on X.
“This is the last straw. Because of this law and many others before it, hitting both families and companies, SpaceX will now move its headquarters from Hawthorne, California to Starbase, Texas,” Musk posted on X. He later added that the X HQ would also move from San. Francisco to Austin.
Musk has recently endorsed former President Donald Trump and reportedly plans to give $45 million a month to a pro-Trump super PAC called America PAC.
Trump is expected to roll back transgender rights if re-elected president this year.
When Tesla moved its headquarters to Texas, it retained its Palo Alto office as “engineering headquarters”.
