Pakistan’s political Party Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) deputy Amir Liaquat Baloch has announced that the religious and political party will launch a shutdown strike across the country on August 28 to increase pressure on the government to provide relief to the people. News reports.
Baloch said at a press conference in Islamabad on Monday that the business community had made a unanimous decision to strike a nationwide strike against inflation, rise in electricity prices, and heavy taxes.
He warned that any attempt by the government to stop the strike would push the country towards anarchy.
Politics reminded that his party staged a fourteen-day protest in Rawalpindi and held talks with the federal government. According to a Geo News report, the ministers earlier this month signed an agreement after acknowledging the demands of Jamaat-e-Islami to provide relief to the inflation-affected nation.

Baloch added that the agreement set a one-month deadline for reviewing the contracts with independent power producers (IPPS). He called on the government of Pakistan to implement the agreement.
Baloch also indicated to start a long march to Islamabad if needed. He added that his party has only postponed the sit-in after signing the agreement with the government, but he will continue his struggle to provide relief to the nation.

Before the announcement of the strike, Jamaat-e-Islami Amir Hafiz Naeem -ur -Rehman announced another protest two weeks ago, saying his party would join hands with business groups and call for a peaceful protest.

It is noteworthy that the protest was announced when the party adjourned its 14-day sit-in on August 9 after a successful negotiation on the demand for high power prices with the government and demand for a review of agreements with IPPs. Who has captured everyone’s attention?
