Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) has announced a reduction in the fares of Umrah flight tickets for minor pilgrims going to Madinah first.

A PIA spokesperson said on Sunday that Umrah pilgrims traveling to Madinah from Pakistan will benefit from discounted fares.

According to the reduction in fares, the cost of a two-way ticket from Lahore, Islamabad to Medina will be Rs 86,000, while the cost of a two-way ticket from Karachi to Madina will be Rs 76,000. The above rates are exclusive of taxes.

Earlier, the Umrah ticket was available for 120k PKR.

The spokesman added that the concessional fares have been implemented immediately and will remain in effect till July 15.

Umrah pilgrimage is performed in the Grand Mosque of Mecca throughout the year. Earlier this month, the new Umrah season began, with 1.8 million Muslims from around the world making the annual Hajj pilgrimage.

It should be noted that Saudi Arabia reportedly wants to increase the number of Muslims performing Umrah to 30 million annually.

“Every year, the number is increasing,” Gulf News quoted Abdul Rahman bin Fahd, Assistant Undersecretary for Umrah Affairs, as saying.

The Saudi official told local TV channel Al-Akhbariya about the plan, which aims to target more than 10 million Umrah pilgrims this year.
